How Can I Improve My HVAC Business? (or) Keeping Your Eyes on Things!

How Can I Improve My HVAC Business?

4 Quick Tips: Business Owners Can Get the Edge

  1. HVAC Systems Aren't the Only Place Technology Belongs in Your Business.
  2. Choose HVAC Business Solutions That Are Convenient for Customers.
  3. HVAC Contractors Should Keep Their Skills Sharp.
  4. Adopt Better Sales Strategy to Create More HVAC Business Opportunities.

Technology and Your HVAC Business

Did you ever notice how your dog stares at you sometimes? He keeps looking...trying to figure you out. And face it--you fascinate him! Your challenge today: be at least as fascinated with your business as your dog is with you. Survival is at stake.

The four bullet points above are a good place to start. How are you doing with respect to technology, as it affects your HVAC business? You have a website, right? Probably--although recent stats show that only 70% of contractors have websites. Hard to believe, right? And of the 70%, fully half of them expect to make changes and modernize them this year.

Your website is your front door. It is your opportunity to 'level the playing field', so you can look at least as professional as your competition. Speaking of which, is your website fully 'mobile friendly'? Taking the mystery out of it, the question is whether your website, when someone looks it up on his or her cell phone, is completely readable. It has to be easily readable, and should also have a 'click to call' button on it so that your company can easily be called by a prospective client. If you make it hard, you might just make that potential new client...go away. Get up to date.

Customer Convenient - HVAC Systems - Preferred by the Customer

Love it or hate it, the customer is still king. Translated, that means what the customer prefers is what you should service and carry--even if it's not your own personal favorite. Understand that system, its pros and cons, be able to speak intelligently about it and know how to service it properly.

All-electric heating and cooling has been decreed by the California legislature to be the next great thing in terms of heating and cooling. Just as those folks have decided to ban gas cars after 2035, so they are banning gas appliances in new construction. Agree or disagree, it's a potential reality for you to consider with respect to its effect on your business. Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of Greater Los Angeles is a resource for you to consider. Building Industry Association of So Cal could also be helpful.

Keeping Your HVAC Skills Sharp (and Your Business Skills Too!)

Simply put, stay on top of things; make sure your crews are on top of things; THINGS CAN CHANGE FAST! To me, and maybe to you, too, the world is moving faster and faster, newer and newer products are being created, and part of the job of owning and managing your business is navigating the turbulent and swirling waters surrounding your vessel. Your customers look to you as their pro. Don't disappoint them.

Adopt Better Sales Strategy to Create More HVAC Business Opportunities

If you are running any kind of a marketing program, then incoming calls, emails, texts and even chats all represent potential business these days (and you should!) then it is essential you capture every one of those, because each represents money spent by your company to get that person dialing or texting or emailing or chatting. Incoming calls from potential prospects are warm calls only when they first go out. If you wait any longer than 15 minutes to call back or otherwise contact them, that warm call will have become cold, and at the end of the day, it will be so cold that the prospect has even forgotten that you were called.

Answer your messages promptly--preferably live, real time. Get them 'hot out of the oven' if you know what I mean. This is your time. Your year. Your business...with the Brand New Customers.
