What is the Largest HVAC Company? - What Does It Mean For You?

People get into a particular business for one reason or another. And…for everyone, it can absolutely be different. Before answering the question asked by the title of this article, let’s direct it to you: Which company do you think is the largest? Is it important to you, or do you even care?

Believe it or not, the title for this article comes directly from Google, meaning it is a question asked by a large share of people using its search engine. So…the question is at least interesting to many people, and possibly to you. Let’s dig in and find out, because there’s a lesson to be learned here, whether you install Daikin products, or not.

According to the aforementioned, Mr. Google, Daikin the largest HVAC company. Agree/disagree/surprised? Is that a manufacturer you use or rely upon? And how about this: ‘How does Google really know?’ These days, it’s really hard to tell, because Daikin Industries grew, at least in part, by acquisition, and also includes in its family of holdings, industries beyond air conditioning. Daikin’s family of interests includes chemicals, fluorocarbons, air filtration, hydraulics, medical equipment and even electronics.

Early this century, Daikin did acquire some businesses, including McQuay International, which, according to Wikipedia, rivaled Carrier Corporation with respect to number of products, territory coverage, revenue. Daikin is very large and is on the list of the top global hvac equipment manufacturers.

It just depends upon what is being measured. To that point, Linquip.com, an objective ‘watcher’ of the industry, has a different list (imagine that!) This one is for the U.S.

HVAC Pros: Be aware that there are lists, and sometimes your customers know what’s on them. So…you should too! Plus, you should be prepared to explain the nature of the list, and how the ranking is devised. GUARANTEED: At some point in time, you will be asked about the manufacturers of your equipment. Some points to remember.

  1. Know the country in which your equipment was manufactured.
  2. Be familiar with the metallurgy, the electronics, reputation and quality.
  3. If the country of manufacture raises questions…have answers at the ready.
  4. ‘Layer’ your warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty.
  5. If your company has been around for awhile, ‘sell’ your company!
  6. ‘Bundle’ into your package some extra goodies, such a filter replacement program or a yearly inspection/cleaning/tune-up
  7. Excellent email follow-up campaign—stay in touch with your customers.
  8. Plan Your Follow Up from the Beginning Contact

Takeaway Teaching: Biggest doesn’t necessarily mean best—although it can be. Words mean things. Define the terms. Remember, your own company is probably not the biggest one around. However, it’s certainly big enough to take extra-good care of your customer. Size rarely matters. Integrity always does.
